Fitting the Motor Part 2 - August 26, 2006...Round 2!
Earlier in the week Mark and I verified that the clutch was OK, and we were ready to move forward with the install. This time we did it fresh on a Saturday rather than at night after a full day at work....things just go so much smoother when you're not tired. Mark and I had the motor and trans in the Z in about 5-10 minutes but some fighting with the steering shaft mean the motor was going to need to come out again.
In the end, I think we had the entire package in and out of the car 3 times for various reasons ranging from issues with steering shaft, to issues with the dipstick tube, to issues with the driver side motor mount. I'll list the snags briefly and let the pictures speak for themselves
Issue 1 - Steering shaft won't go back into place, motor must come out to rethink a stragegy.
Issue 2 - Steering shaft is in, everything is straight.....but we've got a clearence issue with the shaft connected and the motor sitting on the mounts. Motor comes out to trim the mount
Issue 3 - Dipstick tube isn't an exact fit, and it it too tight to modify with the motor installed. In the end we cut up the tube into sections linking them with -6AN stainless steel hose
Issue 4 - Connecting the clutch line is a bitch
Issue 5 - Clutch line is leaking and must come out to have a new fitting put on
Good news:
GN 1 - IT FITS!
GN 2 - IT FITS LIKE IT BELONGS IN THERE
GN 3 - STRONG STRUT FITS
GN 4 - IT FITS!!!!
